Kedarnath, Uttarakhand – The Kedarnath Yatra witnessed another heartbreaking day as two devotees lost their lives on the trekking path to the holy shrine. Both deaths are suspected to be due to heart attacks, as per initial medical reports.
The first incident occurred near Jungle Chatti, where 23-year-old Govind, son of Mahesh, who had come from Chandigarh for darshan, was found severely ill at a roadside shop. A DDRF team immediately shifted him to the nearest medical relief post and later referred him to Gaurikund. Despite efforts, doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
In a separate incident, 50-year-old Nayana Ben, wife of Deepak Kumar Patel, from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, collapsed while walking toward Kedarnath. Rescue personnel rushed her to Gaurikund hospital, where she was also declared dead by the doctors.
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar confirmed that in both cases, doctors suspect cardiac arrest as the cause of death. However, final confirmation will come only after the postmortem reports.
These incidents are another grim reminder of the physical toll of the high-altitude yatra. Authorities continue to advise all pilgrims to undergo proper health checkups and avoid overexertion during the journey.
