In a concerning turn during the holy Kedarnath Yatra, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a man from Maharashtra after recovering LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) from his possession. This is the first known case of such a drug being found on the pilgrimage route.
NCB officials, based on prior intel from drug-related arrests across India, reached Fata on July 3 and, with the help of Guptkashi police, detained the accused — Shashikant — with 0.26 grams of LSD. According to police, he had received the drug by mail and claimed it
was for personal use.
Superintendent of Police Akshay Prahlad Konde stated that the incident has prompted
increased vigilance on the yatra route to prevent drug trafficking. The accused has been sent to Purasari Jail after being produced in court, and further interrogation is underway.
This incident has raised serious concerns about narcotics reaching even sacred locations like Kedarnath. LSD, also known as “acid,” is a potent hallucinogenic drug that is consumed via small blotter papers and is difficult to detect due to its odorless and tasteless nature.
