Another heart-wrenching accident has shaken the sacred Kedarnath Yatra. On Tuesday night, five devotees slipped and fell into a deep ditch near Junglechatti, a dangerous stretch on the walking route between Gaurikund and Kedarnath.

The group was trekking during late hours, hoping to reach the temple on foot. But the dark, narrow path proved deadly. The terrain in this area is steep and rocky, and due to poor lighting, one wrong step can be fatal.

Local police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the spot after being alerted. The rescue operation took place overnight, with teams climbing through tough slopes and working in pitch darkness. Sadly, two pilgrims lost their lives, while three others were found with serious injuries.

The bodies of the deceased were recovered and sent for identification. The injured were given first aid and later shifted to a hospital. Officials are now reviewing safety measures on the route, especially in areas like Junglechatti which are known for accidents.

This is not the first time such an accident has occurred on the Kedarnath foot route. Every year, thousands of pilgrims undertake the tough journey, and some choose to walk late at night to avoid crowds — but the lack of lights, signboards, and guardrails in certain sections makes the path dangerous.

Local authorities may now push for stricter guidelines, including banning night travel on foot and improving lighting on critical stretches.

What Do You Think?

Should walking at night be completely banned during Kedarnath Yatra to avoid such tragedies?🗣️ Share your thoughts in the comments — your opinion matters.
