Tragedy struck in Halsi village near Kotdwar on Sunday evening when a 35-year-old woman was killed by a leopard while grazing her goats near the forest edge. The woman had stepped out like usual for livestock grazing when the wild cat suddenly pounced, dragging her into the nearby forest.

Forest officials reached the spot after locals raised an alarm and later recovered her body from the jungle. This marks the third fatal leopard attackĀ in the Lansdowne forest division this month alone — raising serious concerns about rising human–wildlife conflict in Pauri Garhwal.

Local authorities have stepped up forest patrolling and are likely to install cages and monitoring systems in the affected areas. The community is still in shock, with villagers

demanding urgent action from the forest department to ensure safety.

šŸ”“ This latest death adds to a worrying patternĀ in Uttarakhand’s villages bordering forests, where leopards are increasingly entering human zones — often with fatal consequences.

āœ… Safety Tips Issued by Forest Department:

  • Avoid going alone near forest edges, especially during early mornings or evenings.

  • Make noise while walking in forest-adjacent areas to deter wild animals.

  • Immediately report any leopard sightings or sounds to local forest officials.

šŸ“¢ Authorities urge people to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols strictly until the leopard is captured.

šŸ”š Uttarakhand continues to battle the growing risk of leopard attacks — a grim reminder that human–wildlife balance is now under serious strain.
