A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning near the Patalganga tunnel on the Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district, where a massive stone slab fell onto a moving car. A woman from Haryana lost her life on the spot, while her husband and daughter were seriously injured.
The accident happened after overnight rainfall, which loosened rocks on the steep hillside. The family was travelling through the tunnel section when a sudden rockfall crushed their vehicle. Locals and emergency teams quickly reached the scene and rushed the injured to Peepalkoti Hospital.
Authorities have since cleared the road, but this stretch between Patalganga, Bhanerpani, and Pipalkoti remains highly vulnerable during monsoon months.
