A massive surge of 4.56 lakh new voters has been added to the electoral rolls ahead of the 2025 panchayat elections in Uttarakhand — marking a significant rise from the 2019 elections.

📅 Election Outline

  • Scheduled in two phases: July 10 and July 15, with results announced on July 19.

  • Nominations: June 25–28; Scrutiny: June 29–July 1.

  • Model Code of Conduct applicable from notification through result declaration.

👥 Voter Update

  • Total voters: 47.7 lakh

    • Men: 24.6 lakh

    • Women: 23.1 lakh

    • 374 classified as “Others” — included for the first time.

  • Compared to 2019’s 43.2 lakh voters, this is a 4.5 lakh increase, signalling rising democratic participation.

🏛️ Seats & Security

  • Elections to fill 66,418 positions, including gram panchayat members, pradhans, block and zila panchayat posts.

  • Nearly 96,000 officials and 5,620 vehicles will be mobilized to ensure smooth voting across 89 development blocks.

🧭 Why It Matters

  • The record new voters — particularly youth and underrepresented groups — could reshape local governance.

  • The inclusion of the “Others” category reflects progressive strides in voter registration.

  • With the 73rd amendment mandating regular panchayat polls, these elections mark a vital moment for rural democracy at the grassroots level.
