The Uttarakhand government has launched a major crackdown following a shocking ₹54 crore land scam in Haridwar. An audit committee has been formed to investigate the entire tenure of former Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary, who is now under serious scrutiny.
A controversial land deal involving 2.3 hectares near a garbage dump in Gram Sarai—originally worth just ₹15 crore—was purchased at an inflated price of ₹54 crore. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took swift action after this came to light, ordering a full audit of Haridwar Municipal Corporation’s works under Chaudhary’s leadership.
🚨 Big developments so far:
10 officials suspended, including:
Ex-Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary
Haridwar DM Karmendra Singh (also HMC Administrator)
SDM Ajayveer Singh
Finance Officer Nikita Bisht and other HMC staff
CM ordered a Vigilance probe, audit of all past projects, and cancellation of fraudulent sale deeds
Emphasis on recovery of all misused funds
🗣️ CM Dhami stated: “No matter how high their position, action will be taken against anyone who misuses public trust.”
The case is being seen as a major step in Uttarakhand’s fight against corruption, with more revelations expected as the probe deepens.
